KAH Celebrates National Homeownership Month
June is National Homeownership Month, a tradition started in 1995 to highlight how sustainable homeownership builds generational wealth and strengthens our communities. According to the National Association of REALTORS, the net worth of a typical homeowner is nearly 40 times that of a non-owner.
Thanks to your generosity, Kent Attainable Housing continues to create new opportunities for local families to achieve the stability and security of homeownership. This month, we celebrated the completion of two new affordable homes in Chestertown, bringing our total to nine families served since 2019.
As the need for affordable housing grows, so does our commitment. We are preparing to construct two new homes in Worton and have launched a refreshed website to better connect families, partners, and supporters with our mission and programs.

Transitioning to a sustainable, developer-partnered model to increase our impact on affordable housing for lower-income residents.
Expanding financial literacy and homeowner programs for Kent and northern Queen Anne’s County residents, with a priority on historically disinvested communities.
Deepening collaboration with advocacy organizations to reduce housing insecurity and strengthen our communities.
At KAH, we believe that making housing attainable to service-sector and essential working families is as vital to a thriving community as other infrastructure, such as roads, utilities, and internet connectivity.
And our financial literacy classes—offered for free in partnership with local financial expert volunteers—are designed to help limited-income and working residents identify pathways to homeownership through strengthening their financial well-being.
This work is made possible through the support of local, state, and federal governments, private foundations, and, importantly, local volunteers and donors who care about the financial stability and well-being of our neighbors and neighborhoods.
KENT ATTAINABLE HOUSING RELEASES NEW STRATEGIC PLAN AND WEBSITE
JUNE 2026 - Chestertown, MD: Kent Attainable Housing, Inc. (KAH) recently updated its strategic plan and website, renewing its commitment to helping local neighbors access affordable housing through education, financial assistance, and advocacy.
Since 2019, KAH has helped empower prospective low- to moderate-income (LMI), first-time homebuyers through financial literacy and homebuyer education programs, while connecting families with affordable homes funded through the organization’s construction and renovation efforts. To date, KAH has helped nine families become homeowners and will soon begin two new construction projects in the Butlertown Community of Worton, Maryland.
At the same time, rising production costs have created an accelerating gap between what many families can afford and the cost of building quality housing. It has also become increasingly clear that in rural Eastern Shore communities, including Kent and northern Queen Anne’s counties, the need for affordable housing far exceeds what is currently available.
KENT ATTAINABLE HOUSING HELD RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY FOR PROSPECT STREET DUPLEX
Last week, we had the privilege of holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the closing of an exciting chapter: the completion of our Prospect Street Duplex in Chestertown, MD.
These newly completed homes represent a significant milestone in our mission to expand quality, attainable housing opportunities throughout Kent County. This event celebrated more than just the completion of two physical structures; it symbolized the growing momentum of Kent Attainable Housing. As we honor this achievement, we are also looking ahead to our next affordable housing initiatives within the Butlertown community of Worton, MD.
